Arsenal are on the verge of agreeing on a new contract with star Mesut Ozil, according to Football Insider. The new deal, worth £46.8 million, will see the German international committing his future to the Gunners until 2021.
Negotiations between the club and Ozil’s representatives over a new deal have been going on for quite some time now, and a formal agreement on the deal is expected in the summer.
The 27-year was recently linked with a move to Barcelona and Fenerbahce, but he has since then clarified that he is happy at the North London club and shares a perfect working relationship with manager Arsene Wenger.
The new deal will make Ozil the highest-paid player at the club, as he will earn £180,000-a-week wages in his new contract.
In another Arsenal related transfer news, Alexis Sanchez has urged manager Arsene Wenger to sign Juventus forward Alvaro Morata in the summer.
The Gunners are believed to be in the transfer market for a world-class forward, and the Chilean winger wants the Spain international to partner him at the North London club, according to Spanish publication Don Balon.
It has been suggested that Real Madrid will activate the buy-back clause for Morata in the summer before selling him again for a profit.
