Manchester City star hits back hard at Chelsea

Manchester City are not going to win the Premier League, but they have reached all-time highs in the Champions League, reaching the semi-finals.

Their success has been proven to be linked with the availability of Kevin De Bruyne. The Belgian playmaker joined the Citizens last summer from Wolsburg in a £55.5 million transfer deal and has proven to be a crucial player.

As noted by Sky Sports in the tweet below, City have won 60 per cent while scoring 2.2 goals per game with De Bruyne. Those numbers drop to 50 per cent and 1.6 goals per game without the 24-year-old.

On Saturday, De Bruyne makes his return to Stamford Bridge, as City face Chelsea in the Premier League. The Belgian joined the Blues during the 2013 winter transfer window from Genk for £6 million.

However, De Bruyne was sent on loan to Genk and Werder Bremen, before being sold to Wolfsburg in 2014. Now, De Bruyne has hit back at Chelsea for not getting a proper chance.

“It is what it is”, the 24-year-old told Belgian sports website Sporza. “I just want to help City win a game that’s very important to us. It could be an awesome game.

“It will be a hard game, because it’s on the road. But I don’t feel I have anything to prove. There’s not much to say. I didn’t play bad at Chelsea, because I just didn’t play.”

De Bruyne recently returned from a knee injury and has scored three goals in four appearances since, including two goals in the Champions League quarter-finals against Paris Saint-Germain.
