Real Madrid put very surprising (low) price tag on Cristiano Ronaldo

Despite winning the Spanish Clasico against Barcelona (2-1) during the weekend, the transfer rumour mill has never stopped spinning at Real Madrid.

Los Blancos haven’t won the La Liga title since 2012 and sacked coach Rafa Benitez during the current season, to replace him with club legend Zinedine Zidane. Still, Real are ranked just third in the standings, trailing city rivals Atletico Madrid by one point and Barcelona by seven.

Not surprisingly, there has been many talks about a potential team overhaul during the summer, with almost any star player potentially leaving, including Cristiano Ronaldo.

Now, according to Sky Sports’ Guillem Balague (via Goal), Real have put a very surprising £48 million price tag on their Portuguese forward. Ronaldo’s age (31) and contract status have persuaded the Spanish giants to cash in on him while he retains his superstar value, with his current deal due to expire in 2018.

This news should alert the likes of Manchester United and PSG, who are known to be very interested in CR7. However, with such a low price tag other suitors could potentially join the race to sign Ronaldo, who is expected to demand wages between £16 million and £20 million.
