Manchester United to beat competition for La Liga star, at risk of losing out on top class striker

Jose Mourinho has been in charge of Manchester United for a couple of days now, but his only moves so far have been extending the contracts of talents Marcus Rashford and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson.

However, things are looking to change for the Red Devils as it is reported that United will beat main rival Juventus for the services of Valencia’s Andre Gomes.

A report by respected Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio claims negotiations between Valencia and the Serie A champions have stalled due to the price-tag of the 22-year-old Portuguese midfielder.

The La Liga outfit are said to be looking for a fee of £30 million paid at once, but Juventus are only prepared to offer £22 million plus a number of bonuses worth £15 million. Meanwhile, the Red Devils are willing to put the necessary cash on the table for Gomes.

The Portugal international provided four goals and seven assists in 41 appearances and joined Valencia last summer from Benfica in a £11.25 million deal.

In addition, United have reportedly been dealt a serious blow in their chase of star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The Sun reports that the Sweden international could choose to join his former club Malmo ahead of Manchester United this summer.

“I love Malmo and I wish I could play today. I apologise for that, but I will, I will. Just wait for me”, the 34-year-old said during a press conference related to Sweden’s friendly against Slovenia.

And, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport’s Emanuele Giulianelli, Tottenham are about to offer Ibrahimovic a two-year deal worth £9.2 million per season.
