Chelsea owner Roman Abramovic held a meeting with Lionel Messi’s father on his luxury yacht, with a view to making a move for the Barcelona forward, according to an exclusive report by The Sun.
The Argentine star and his father Jorge Messi were sentenced to 21 months in prison on Wednesday, although neither is likely to serve any jail time. Under Spanish law, a tax prison sentence under two years can be served under probation.
However, that news has fueled rumours that Messi wants to leave Spain and the Premier League has always been his most likely destination if he opts to leave the Bluagrana.
The report claims a secret meeting took place between the Messi’s father, who’s also his agent, and Abramovich, which could’ve occurred at sea on the Eclipse yacht owned by the Russian millionaire.
Chelsea will reportedly pay Barcelona £110 million for the Argentine’s services, while offering Messi wages of £800,000-a-week at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues are now waiting to see if Messi asks for a transfer, with Pep Guardiol’s Manchester City around the corner to make a move themselves for the man who 41 goals and 26 assists in 49 appearances last season.
