Manchester City have finally completed the signing of Riyad Mahrez from Leicester City for a club record fee of £60m that could rise to £75m with add-ons. This acquisition was made possible also through the renewal of the partnership with AvaTrade, an online broker, which yielded millions of GBP to the club for the upcoming season.
The 27-year-old was linked with the Premier League champions in January and even went as far as handing in a transfer request but Pep Guardiola’s side balked at Leicester’s £90m fee.
Mahrez, who will wear the no 26 jersey, has signed a five-year contract at the Etihad Stadium and will hope to play a major role in City’s title defence.
“I am so pleased to have joined City, a side playing great football under Pep Guardiola,” Mahrez told the official club website.
“Watching them from afar has been a pleasure. Pep is committed to playing attacking football, which is a perfect for me, and City’s performances last season were outstanding. They’re redefining the English game and I wanted to be a part of it.
“I think we can be successful over the coming years and I believe my own game can develop under Pep’s management.”
