Anthony Martial is set to be fined by Jose Mourinho for departing the club’s tour of the United States early in order to attend the birth of his son in Paris, despite the forward’s imminent return to Manchester United training on Thursday.
Martial left United’s tour before the game against Milan last Wednesday to attend the birth of his second child, a son, Swan Anthony, in Paris.
The United manager made a pointed comment regarding Martial’s continued absence after his side’s 4-1 loss to Liverpool in Michigan on Saturday.
“He has the baby and after the baby is born – beautiful baby, full of health, thank God. He should be here and he is not here,” Mourinho said.
After United’s final tour game, the 2-1 win over Real Madrid in Miami on Wednesday, the manager said he did not know when the Frenchman would be back.
Yet later the same day Martial tweeted: “My little Swan is fine, for the mum it was harder but thanks to God she’s better now. Sorry but my family will always come first … Back tomorrow in Manchester.”
