There was a palpable sense of disappointment emanating from the Northern Ireland camp following defeat to Poland in their opening match of Euro 2016, with regrets aplenty over their lack of any kind of goal threat. The following outing against Ukraine became absolutely crucial. Euro 2016 Group C – Germany and Poland renew their rivalry

The qualifiers brought two memorable encounters between Germany and Poland, with both teams collecting a win apiece, so there was much anticipation when they were drawn together for the finals. They have been placed in a section from which they should comfortably advance, although top…

On what eventually turned out to be a dramatic night in the first week of September, Michael O’Neill’s side found themselves a goal down at home to Hungary and down to 10 men, but Kyle Lafferty came good again to salvage a stoppage time point. Northern Ireland vs Hungary – Match preview and team news

Having won five out of seven games in what has been a magnificent qualifying campaign, Northern Ireland will qualify for Euro 2016 with just one more three point haul against Hungary on Monday. A first major tournament appearance in three decades will come as massively unexpected, as manager Michael O’Neill could hardly buy a win before their Group F schedule got underway in Budapest a year ago. Even at the halfway stage, it seems inconceivable that Northern Ireland will not at least end up in a play-off…
