Campbell set to seal Magpies move.
Former Arsenal defender Sol Campbell is set to have a medical at St James’ Park today. According to Sky Sports, the 35-year-old could sign a contract within the next 24 hours. The centre-back has been linked with a number of clubs since his short-term deal with the Gunners expired, and held talks with Celtic and Sunderland, but looks set to join up with Chris Hughton, who was assistant manager at Spurs during his spell there. Campbell captained Portsmouth to an FA Cup final victory in 2008 and Hughton will be confident that he can provide strong cover for the injured Steven Taylor.
