Arsenal news – Almunia in Osasuna link, Campbell set for Newcastle, Gibbs talks on comeback

Every morning A Different League searches the nations press to bring you the latest goings on at Arsenal. Today:

Almunia in Osasuna link.

Spanish club Osasuna are looking to take Manuel Almunia away from North London, as he eyes a number one spot. The goalkeeper has fallen out of favour with the Gunners after numerous blunders last season, which left Arsene Wenger looking for a new goalkeeper. According to the Mirror, Atletico Madrid and Osasuna look to take Almunia back to Spain while numerous reports suggest Marten Stekelenburg or Igor Akinfeev.

Campbell set for Newcastle.

Arsenal defender Sol Campbell is set to have medical at Newcastle this afternoon, according to the Daily Mail. He has been out of contract since the end of last season and has rejected Celtic, Sunderland and now apparently, Arsenal. He had been holding out for another deal at the Emirates but it seems that Arsene Wenger has taken too long over the deal, opting to move up north to the newly promoted Newcastle instead.

Gibbs talks on comeback.

Promising left back Kieran Gibbs has declared himself fit, after a nightmare six months out with a broken foot. “I feel good. My foot’s not causing me any problems and there has not been a lot of reaction to the metalwork I had in there” speaking to the clubs official website. The young Englishman is expected to be after Gael Clichy’s left back position in the first team this season.
