Levein ready to welcome Wolves striker Fletcher back into the fold

Scotland manager Craig Levein today revealed that in-form Wolves striker Steven Fletcher has, as far as Levein is concerned, not permanently shut the door on Scotland.

Following his controversial withdrawal from the Scotland squad that was to face Northern Ireland in February, Fletcher’s international career seemed to have stalled somewhat prematurely; that, coupled with his indifferent form for Wolves, suggested that the former Real Madrid target may well have played his last game for Scotland.

However, Levein’s latest statement may serve as something of an olive branch for the newly prolific Fletcher. The Scotland boss claims that ‘if Steven indicates […] that he wants to be involved in the Scotland national team, then I’ll consider him.’ Levein went on to state that he has ‘absolutely no problem with Steven,’ a further indication that – should the Wolves forward desire – his self-imposed exile from the Scottish squad could soon reach a close.
