In a must win game, Chelsea host Wolves at Stamford Bridge looking to ease some pressure of their Portuguese manager Andre Villas-Boas.
Villas-Boas has come under scrutiny for leading the Blues to their worst start since 2003 and faces a must win fixture against Mick McCarthy’s Wolves side. Ashley Cole returns from missing the midweek defeat in Leverkusen and Villas-Boas, bar Michael Essien, has no further injury concerns. In their last outing, the Blues were beaten late on by Liverpool and Villas-Boas is keen for them to erase complacency this weekend.
McCarthy’s side will be looking to take advantage of the problems at Stamford Bridge, but will have to do so without three key players. Midfielders Jamie O’Hara and Stephen Hunt have both been ruled out with suspension and defender Richard Stearman will not play due to a broken wrist. Wolves lost away at Everton last week, but were solid defensively and will look to stifle Chelsea to a point.
Villas-Boas has received plenty of blame for his side’s poor showing, but he is still an immensely talented manager. The Blues should get themselves back on track with all three points, but it will not come easy against the battling Wolves.
