Gerrard in race to return for top of table Liverpool clashes

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard faces a race against time to be fit for the club’s double header against Chelsea and Manchester City later this month, Liverpool Daily Post reports.

The extent of his latest injury setback became clear and Gerrard had undergone treatment to clear out the infection from his right ankle. Gerrard was on crutches at the weekend and his leg is now in protective plaster to ensure the wound heals. The Liverpool skipper will miss the weekend’s game against Swansea City and England’s friendlies against Spain and Sweden.

Gerrard is undergoing a rehabilitation programme at Melwood and is a doubt for Liverpool’s trip to Chelsea on November 20th followed by the home tie with Manchester City seven days later. The 31 year old has been dogged with injury problems in the calendar year.

As well as Gerrard being injured, Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher is suffering from injury. Injuries to those two key players could resort in problems for Reds manager Kenny Dalglish.
