Liverpool plan move for Inter defender Chivu

Liverpool are keeping an eye on Inter Milan defender Cristian Chivu, but face competition from Manchester City, according to talkSPORT.

The Romania international is out of contract at the end of the season and is yet to discuss a new deal with the club, who are languishing in 17th place in the table. Chivu has now been linked with a whole host of clubs across Europe and Liverpool are said to be the frontrunners for his services.

31 year old Chivu has been one of the stars of Serie A since he joined Roma in 2003. Upon his £14m move to Inter in 2007, the Romanian became a mainstay in the Inter defence. Chivu is reportedly interested in a new challenge and sees the attraction of the Premier League as something he favours on a cut-price deal.

Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish is looking to tighten his defence after only keeping three clean sheets in ten Premier League games so far this season.
