New Sunderland manager Martin O’Neill is expected to watch from the stands as the Black Cats travel to the Black Country to take on Wolves at Molineux.
Sunderland sacked Steve Bruce following a 2-1 defeat at home to Wigan last weekend. That, added to the inconsistencies and unrest at the club, cost Bruce his job and the Black Cats will look for a positive result to relax the fans. Injuries have left caretaker boss Eric Black in trouble with goalkeepers Craig Gordon and Simon Mignolet both still injured. Titus Bramble and Fraizer Campbell are back in training, but not fit enough to be in contention for the game.
Wolves have a quartet of players back in contention following their 3-0 defeat against Chelsea. Jamie O’Hara and Stephen Hunt are available following suspension with Kevin Doyle returning after knee injury. Defender Richard Stearman will play with a cast on his wrist against the Black Cats. Manager Mick McCarthy sees his side hovering above the drop zone and will want a win to relieve some pressure. Captain Karl Henry serves a one game ban after picking up his fifth booking of the season.
These two strugglers are languishing dangerously near the bottom three and a point will not be good enough for either side. Expect Sunderland to look to impress their new boss O’Neill and pick up a vital win.
