Steven Pienaar has returned to Everton on loan for the rest of the season, a year after leaving the Merseyside club to join Tottenham, reports Sky
Pienaar, 29, joined Tottenham for £3 million last year on a four year contract, but has struggled to establish himself since his arrival. A combination of injuries and Spurs’ star-laden midfield has limited him to just two substitute appearances in the Premier League and three Europa League appearances for the club this season, and a return to Everton represents a chance to resurrect his career.
The South African originally signed for Everton from Borussia Dortmund back in 2007, and made over 100 league appearances for the club before his departure last January. The deal for his return was confirmed with minutes of the deadline to spare, with Pienaar posting on Twitter, “Happy days – looks like we just beat the clock. Holding thumbs for next few hours.”
