Chelsea defender Luiz a target for Barcelona

Chelsea centre-back David Luiz is wanted by La Liga side Barcelona, according to the Daily Mirror, as the Brazil international reveals he is travelling to Spain to film an advert for one of his sponsors.

Luiz revealed on Twitter that he was heading for Catalonia but it was later confirmed to be a journey made to film a television piece for Nike. However, the Mirror believes Tito Vilanova’s side are interested in bringing Luiz to Barcelona on a more permanent basis.

The 25-year-old has been at Stamford Bridge since January 2011, moving to Chelsea in a £24m deal the same day the club signed Fernando Torres from Liverpool. The Mirror adds that Luiz is not a guaranteed starter at Chelsea, as he faces competition from captain John Terry, England international Gary Cahill and Branislav Ivanovic.

Luiz was recently fined by Chelsea for revealing on Twitter ahead of the Reading match on Wednesday that he was injured and unable to play. The club punished the defender for giving away team news.
