Both Wigan and Manchester City set aside any lingering worries to engage in the FA Cup final today, with City boss Roberto Mancini looking to win his second cup in three years.
City come into the game comfortable in second place in the Barclays Premier League, but Mancini is widely reported to be living on borrowed time at the Etihad, with reports of Malaga coach Mauricio Pellegrini replacing the Italian in Manchester. The Citizens made the final having defeated Leeds, Barnsley and Chelsea amongst others.
Wigan meanwhile are sitting in 18th place, three points behind Newcastle, and the Cup distraction comes at a welcome time, before they get back to league business against Arsenal on Tuesday. Wigan’s road to Wembley included wins over Millwall, Everton and Huddersfield.
For City Yaya Toure and David Silva are fit despite recent concerns, and only Scott Sinclair is unavailable. Sergio Aguero is set to lead the attacking line. Costel Pantilimon is set to start in goal ahead of Joe Hart, having been the designated ‘cup-keeper’ this season.
Wigan will give a late fitness test for Antolin Alcaraz, but do welcome back Ali Al Habsi in goal.
