With Martin Skrtel’s Liverpool future in serious doubt, Brendan Rodgers is set to move quickly to replace the Slovakian with Greece International defender, Kyriagos Papadopolous, topping the list of potential targets, according to the Daily
Papadopolous has been very impressive for both club and country in recent seasons but a knee injury, suffered at the end of last season, influenced Rodgers’ decision to delay his pursuit for the Schalke defender.
However, after a significant improvement in the 21-year-old’s fitness, the Liverpool boss is ready to follow up with an excessive bid for his long term target who is valued at £12 million by his current club.
The Reds have already added experienced centre-back, Kolo Toure, to the defence but Rodgers is still intent on adding one more defender to his backline.
Papadopoulos could well be the final piece of Rodgers’ summer jigsaw and with 56 appearances under his belt in the Bundesliga as well as crucial Champions League experience; it would be a real statement of intent from the Merseyside club.
