John Ruddy is one of the best goalkeepers in England and should be going to the World Cup in Brazil this summer, according to his club captain Russell Martin, Talksport
Ruddy has been an ever present for Norwich this season, and despite the club falling to the hands of almost certain relegation the stopper has put in impressive performances, keeping 12 clean sheets this season.
Ruddy is yet to play a full international for the Three Lions since debuting as a sub in a 2 -1 win over Italy almost two years ago, although he has been included in squads since.
Roy Hodgson names his squad on Monday and many believe that relegation could well affect the England manager’s selections, but Martin thinks otherwise.
Martin said: “John’s been brilliant for us this season as he was last season. He’s been one of our better players.
“I don’t see why getting relegated should harm his chances of going to the World Cup because he’s proven week in, week out what a good goalkeeper.
“I hope he’s in the squad, he’s been fantastic for us.”
Ruddy will face competition for the suspected three goalkeeping positions in Hodgson’s squad from current and expected number one Joe Hart, Celtic’s Fraser Forster, and West Brom’s Ben Foster.
If Ruddy is selected it is likely to be as an understudy to Hart, who many will feel is the number one choice to start in Brazil come the summer.
