Ashley Barnes scored late in the second half against Southampton, as Burnley piled the misery onto the struggling Saints, reports BBC
Burnley had little in the way of clear cut opportunities in the game against their South Coast opponents, with the visitors boasting the lion’s share of possession and chances.
Youngster Jake Hesketh had a couple of opportunities for Southampton in the first-half, but couldn’t make it count. Victor Wanyama and Ryan Bertrand saw their efforts fail to ripple the back of the net, before Burnley came back into the game.
Danny Ings and Kieran Trippier had chances outside the box, but didn’t come close to registering in the first 45 minutes. But the second-half saw things come to life.
Ashley Barnes struck for the home side midway through the second-half, and Burnley held on to boost their survival hopes, while confining Southampton to five winless games.
