Everton striker Samuel Eto’o has agreed terms with Serie A club Sampdoria and so looks set to leave Merseyside after only five months, the Daily
Signed as a free agent late in the summer transfer window after spending last season at Chelsea, Eto’o has made 20 appearances for Everton and scored four goals, but has not been a regular starter. On Tuesday, he was left out of the squad altogether as they lost on penalties to West Ham United in their FA Cup third round replay.
Sampdoria have offered Eto’o a two and-a-half year deal to return to Italy, which would also see the 33-year-old have the option of becoming a coach at the club when that contract expires in the summer of 2017. They are hoping for a medical to take place on Monday and the transfer to be completed by the time of their Italian Cup tie with Inter on Wednesday.
But Everton are still discussing the terms on the transfer before it can go through, while their manager Roberto Martinez admitted on Friday that they would be willing to consider allowing Eto’o to leave.
