Following a strong start, the Argentine trailed off as the season went on, and recent speculation suggested that he could be on his way out of the club this summer.
The record £59.7m signing from Real Madrid made 20 starts in the Premier League for United, with a further seven coming as a substitute. He managed to chalk up three goals and a respectable 10 assists.
However, Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain were believed to be interested in snapping him up, either on a loan deal or permanently.
But he has now finally moved to deny the reports of a swift exit by stating his intention to stick around at the Theatre of Dreams for the foreseeable future.
“I have just finished my first season playing for Manchester United.”
“Now I will play the Copa America and then I will move back to Manchester for next season and do my best there.”
Admitting that he found the transition into English football difficult, he added: “It was a hard season for me.
“I think it was hard because it was another country and another league, and this league is harder than the Spanish one.
“So, I couldn’t adapt myself as I wanted to.
“La Liga and the Premier League are completely different. The Premier League is physically stronger.
“It was not easy at all. I ended playing few minutes.”
“Under Van Gaal I played in lots of positions until he decided to bench me.
“I think I did a good job, though.
“I finished second in assists and I scored some goals, so I definitely think I did well in my first season at Manchester United.”
