Chelsea have been given the green light to press ahead with a £20m move to sign Shakhtar Donetsk forward Douglas Costa, according to the Metro.
Chelsea Transfer Gossip
The Brazilian international has reportedly told the Ukrainian giants that he wants to leave the club this summer to join Jose Mourinho’s men in London.
The news will come as music to Mourinho’s ears as he has been a keen observer of the 24-year-old recently.
Costa confirmed his intention to link up with the Blues by revealing a ‘transfer plan’, in which he thanked current boss Mircea Lucescu and hailed Mourinho as the best coach in the world.
“Eventually the time comes when you get tired of playing always in the same league,” he said.
“I’m 24 years old and it is worth trying to tell people that I want to go. We have a wonderful coach in Mircea Lucescu, but I think it’s time for a change and I think Mourinho is the best in the world.”
Goal.com claims that he had contact with the Blues about a possible move earlier in the year, but with Mourinho keen to add to his forward line over the summer to provide cover following Diego Costa’s injury problems, the time could be right to swoop for his signature.
