According to the Metro, the Premier League champions have been in talks with his parent club Monaco about a potential £25m deal, after Louis van Gaal decided against making his loan move permanent.

Jose Mourinho will certainly be hoping – especially given the size of the fee involved – that they get the striker that was brutally ruthless for Porto and Atletico Madrid, rather than the one that looked somewhat out of his depth during his time at Old Trafford. While his effort was unquestionable most of the time, he only managed to score four goals in the top flight.

However, Chelsea are in need of adding to their striker options as they try to retain their league crown. Diego Costa scored 20 goals in the competition during his first year at Stamford Bridge, but struggled at times with injuries. And unfortunately, neither Loic Remy nor Didier Drogba were able to grasp their chances when they came.

With Drogba leaving this summer (via Daily Mail), Mourinho’s options are now even more sparse, unless he decides to give Dominic Solanke or Patrick Bamford a chance.

Considering that he has preferred to use a lone striker, it is unlikely that he will trust either in the role – given their lack of experience – and would therefore prefer someone who has proved in the past that they can do that job effectively.
