The news obviously set delirious Reds fans into overdrive, thrilled at the prospect of landing one of the most in demand players in Europe – a player that will undoubtedly improve the squad following such a lacklustre and disappointing campaign.
When the deal is finally complete, Liverpool fans can look forward to a very different looking attack, as he will surely contribute something special alongside compatriot Philippe Courtinho.
And while United fans were quick to brush off the fact that they had missed out on such a highly-rated star, their hurt was obvious as it was masked behind some rather ropey banter.
Insistant that they hadn’t been beaten to the punch for his signature, many dusted off the old “if United had wanted him, they’d have got him” chestnut.

Firmino is a good signing though, although like I said when originally linked to us.. Couldn't see him at a top 4 club.

Let's get it right, if we wanted him then he'd be a United player.

Amusing how the tune has changed re: Firmino. I know v little about him but people were waxing lyrical when we were "close to" signing him.
