The former Arsenal star looks increasingly likely to exit in the coming weeks, having fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford, and with the likes of Juventus sniffing around, Van Gaal is tempted to ship him out and replace him with the Uruguayan international.
However, van Gaal will want to make sure that a serious deal to sign Cavani can be struck, as the side will be painfully short of options up front.
