Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal is targeting a summer move for either Bastian Schweinsteiger or Morgan Schneiderlin as he looks to bolster his midfield options.

According to the Daily Star, the France international is his second choice, but a senior figure at Old Trafford did confirm that there is definitely some interest from their side.
“Yes, we are interested in Morgan but no deal is imminent,” they said.
The Saints man’s reputation is enjoying as meteoric a rise as the club he has spent the last seven years with. The Daily Mirror reported last month that he now wishes to take his game to the next level, and that would involve a move to a team competing in Europe’s premier competition.
“The Champions League is my goal and if I leave Southampton it will be for a club in the Champions League,” he explained.
The Star suggest that it would take around £25m to persuade the south coast club to part with the 25-year-old. However, their own interest in United’s Javier Hernandez may lower the cost, should they be keen on a swap deal.
United will only turn to Schneiderlin if they fail in their bid to sign Schweinsteiger. The 30-year-old is renowned as one of the best holding midfielders in the world, and would be a massive indication of where van Gaal wants to take his United team.
The club are willing to tease the Bundesliga champions with an offer of £10m, according to the Star, perhaps in the hope that his age, as well as injury issues in the past, are enough to make Pep Guardiola take the offer seriously.
