Manchester United have reportedly decided that they will be willing to let record signing Angel di Maria go this summer, but only if they can swap him for Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani.
According to the Daily Star, the winger is attracting interest from Barcelona and Bayern Munich, as well as the Ligue 1 side, however the United board are not keen to sell to either of the former pair through fears that they may discover the player that fans at Old Trafford only saw glimpses of this season.
And while they are aware he could have a similar impact in France, they would happy to let him go should the Uruguayan head the other way, the Star suggest.
The Star report that the 28-year-old would be keen on a move to the Premier League. With Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the side, Cavani has often been forced to play slightly out of position.
However, with United’s thin numbers in attack, there is little question that he would be played in the central role where he is most dangerous.
And with the Star suggesting that he would command a fee of around £50m – if he was to be bought without a player heading in the opposite direction – a swap deal may allow United to recoup most of the £59.7m they spent on di Maria, despite his disappointing year in England.
