However, he has since admitted that he wants to be playing Champions League football, and has been encouraged following Mourinho’s apparent interest in him.
Speaking with French radio station RMC, the 25-year-old said: “Is he [Mourinho] following my progress? According to what I am hearing, yes.
“He is one of the best managers in the world. He has won so many titles… Any player would love to be coached by this man.
“For the moment, I am coached by other people. If one day I have the chance to work under his guidance, I would be very happy.”
He added: “For the moment, I am still at Newcastle and I feel good over there. There is no problem.
“After that, you can never be sure about what is going to happen. If I am to move, the French national team will be part of my thinking. I will make the right choice.
“Champions League football? All players dream of playing in this competition.
“I hope to participate in it one day. I am patient. I am waiting for my time.”
Sissoko joined Newcastle during the January transfer window back in 2013, penning a six-and-a-half-year deal with the Magpies from Toulouse.
During that time he has been a key component of the team’s midfield, featuring in 94 games and scoring 11 goals in the process.
He has also established himself as a regular starter in the midfield for the France national team, adding a further 22 to his collection since linking up with the club.
