Manchester United have made a £28.6m offer to sign long serving Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos, according to the BBC.
The Spanish giants have failed to offer the 29-year-old an extended deal as he enters the final year of his current contract, and United believe they can tempt him away from the club he has spent the past decade with.
Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal has made new defensive recruits one of his top priorities this summer, as a series of injuries hindered the team’s ambitions of a loftier finish in the league.
The Dutchman believes Ramos wants to leave the Santiago Bernabeu due to the ongoing situation with his contract, and has now sought to pounce just a day before the transfer window opens on July 1.
Having arrived from Sevilla in 2005, Ramos has gone on to make 445 appearances for Real Madrid, winning a vast array of titles, including the 2014 Champions League.
