Arsenal are reportedly considering a move for Bayern Munich midfielder Mario Gotze, after his agent criticised the Bundesliga side for the way they have used the 23-year-old.
According to the Daily Mirror, the Gunners are contemplating a surprise bid after Volker Struth’s comments in Bild appeared to suggest that Gotze was unhappy at the Allianz Arena.
“Of course I would have liked if Mario had felt more support in one or two situations,” he said.
“I am fully convinced that when Mario feels this support, it is easier for him to show his incredible potential. Then he is one of the best players in the world,” he added.
The German has endured a challenging time since his move from Borussia Dortmund two years ago. Having been one of the most exciting parts of Jurgen Klopp’s side during his time with Dortmund, he has found the spotlight much more difficult to grab at their Bundesliga rivals, and has been used in a variety of positions.
Although he has won the league crown in both campaigns since his move – as well as scoring the only goal in last year’s World Cup final – his performances and attitude have been slated by Bayern legend Franz Beckenbauer in the past (via Daily Mail).
Meanwhile, Arsene Wenger appears to be able to get the best out of creative players, judging by the contributions that Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil have made since their moves to the Emirates. The prospect of rebuilding his reputation may now also tempt the German to north London, should an offer come in.
