Besiktas line up ambitious move for Arsenal’s Danny Welbeck

The Metro are reporting that Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck is being lined up as a surprise target for Turkish giants Besiktas.

Having sold former Premier League favourite Demba Ba to Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua (via BBC) they are now in the market for a new striker, and have reportedly targeted the England international to fill the gap.

According to Turkish newspaper Aksam, the Besiktas hierarchy are confident of landing the former Man United man for a fee in the region of £7-10.6million.

Having only arrived at The Emirates Stadium last summer, the 24-year-old managed to bag himself a total of eight goals across 24 appearances in all competitions despite missing out on chunks of the campaign through injury.

News of Arsenal’s continued search for a striker has given the Turkish club hope that they will be able to tempt him to join on the premise of regular first team football.

The Metro believe that the Gunners will likely reject any offer that comes their way for Welbeck, but his will have to improve on his tally if he intends to prove that he has a future at the club.
