Man United’s interest in bringing back Cristiano Ronaldo is real

Manchester United are believed to be working on a deal to bring club icon Cristiano Ronaldo back to Old Trafford this summer, according to the Manchester Evening News.

Rumours of his return had surfaced in several outlets earlier in the summer, but the M.E.N now claims that a new club-record deal is in the works.

The Portuguese international departed Old Trafford six years ago to head for the Santiago Bernabeu in a world record £80m deal, but earlier this week he gave rise to speculation claiming that he is unhappy with Real coach Rafa Benitez with a public display of derision during a training session (via Daily Star).

United have already been active in the transfer market so far this summer, bringing in the likes Memphis Depay, Matteo Darmian, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin. However, the M.E.N believes that the club are still looking to make a marquee style signing as they did last summer with the arrival of Angel di Maria.

Bringing Ronaldo on board would undoubtedly be a huge coup for the Red Devils, despite his pre-existing links to the club, and it would send a powerful declaration of intent that they are ready to reclaim their spot at the top of the Premier League tree.
