Brendan Rodgers considering bid to bring £21.7m striker to Liverpool

Brendan Rodgers is reportedly showing no signs of slowing down as the closure of the transfer window looms, and now plans to make a £21.7m bid for Lyon forward Alexandre Lacazette, according to the Metro.

The Reds have already reacted to their struggles of last season – as Rickie Lambert, Mario Balotelli, and Fabio Borini all failed to grasp their opportunities – by bringing in both Dannys Ings and Christian Benteke, and have Divock Origi available for the first time since he completed his move last summer. Nevertheless, Rodgers apparently remains in the market for another goalscorer.

Lacazette is one of the most ruthless in Europe at the moment, having scored 27 goals in 33 Ligue 1 games during the last campaign. That fire power has led to a lot of interest, with the Metro reporting that Manchester United and Arsenal are also keen on the Frenchman.

If he is able to reproduce the form that helped propel Lyon into the title race last season, then the money Liverpool are willing to spend on him will seem like a bargain. However, he will be under an immense amount of pressure to succeed, such is the expectation of him following an unbelievable year.
