Chelsea have missed out on one of their key summer targets, after Douglas Costa decided to join Bayern Munich.
According to the Daily Express, the 24-year-old has officially joined the Bundesliga champions – on a five-year deal, the club’s official website state – having spent over five years with Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk.
The news is likely to be a blow for Jose Mourinho, who has previously been linked with landing the Brazilian, who has made a handful of appearances for the national side. He was included in the squad for the Copa America, but the tournament ended poorly for him, as he missed a penalty during their shootout defeat to Paraguay in the quarter-final.
While the standard will be much higher in Germany to what has probably become accustomed to in Ukraine, he will be hoping he can enjoy a similar amount of success in the Allianz Arena as he has at the Donbass Arena, having won five league titles, and three domestic cup honours.
