According to the Daily Express, he is not willing to move to White Hart Lane – despite talk of a deal that would see Emmanuel Adebayor head to Villa Park – because of a previous transfer saga between Spurs and the player.

The Express suggest that Tottenham’s interest forced the 24-year-old to hand in a transfer request two years ago. However, a bid was never forthcoming leaving the forward looking slightly foolish.

Liverpool are also in negotiations with the Midlands side, the Express report, but are not reportedly willing to pay the full £32.5m that would trigger his release clause.

However, it would not be a surprise to see the former Genk man turn up at Anfield based on their dealings so far this window. The Merseyside club have already splashed out £29m on Brazilian star Roberto Firmino (via BBC Sport), however they still need a new striker, and it appears that Benteke is high on the list.
