Former Arsenal forward Carlos Vela has rejected a surprise offer to return to the Premier League, and has instead decided to remain with Real Sociedad.
According to the Daily Express, the Hammers reportedly offered £21.4m for the Mexican, and were prepared to battle it out with Bundesliga side Wolfsburg for his signature.
However, he has now rejected a move back to England to remain with David Moyes’ side, where he still has three years left on the contract he signed last season (via Express).
Despite spending six years with the Gunners, he made just three starts in the Premier League, with 26 appearances coming from the bench. His struggles to hold down a place in the side contributed to his less than impressive goalscoring record. He hit the back of the net just three times.
He has been more successful in La Liga. His final loan spell before his departure from the Emirates produced 12 goals in 35 games, and did enough to persuade the Basque side to make the deal permanent.
He has repaid that faith with 39 goals in 101 games in the division.
