Manchester United are close to beating Liverpool to the signing of Barnsley youngster Paul Digby, having handed the midfielder a trial at Old Trafford.
According to the Metro,
Digby has represented England at various youth levels, and began to make an impression for the Oakwell outfit last season. He made 11 League One appearances, and also appeared for the club in the FA Cup.
While he would surely get more first-team football if he remained with the Yorkshire side, he is at an age where he needs to think about his development if he wishes to reach the highest level of the game. If he remained in the third tier, he may have to watch his potential fade away.
And while it is unclear whether he will end up making the grade with United – if a deal does go through – the level of coaching he is set to receive should be much higher, and should give him the best chance of becoming the player that United believe he could be.
