Manchester giants join Chelsea in their interest in John Stones

Both Manchester clubs have reportedly joined Chelsea in the chase to sign highly-rated Everton defender John Stones.

The Premier League champions had lodged a £25m bid for the 21-year-old earlier this week (via Sky Sports) but The Toffees had knocked back the London side despite it being a £5m improvement on their initial offer.

However, The Blues no longer have a clear path to the player’s signature as the Metro are reporting that Manchester United have also declared an interest in prizing him away from Goodison Park.

The Metro claim that United have contacted the player’s agent, and after missing out on Real Madrid’s Sergio Ramos (via ESPN) they could be ready to make an advanced approach for another centre-back with the new season just over a week away from kicking off.

Elsewhere, Manchester City are also being credited with an interest by the Daily Mirror.

The Mirror claims that City have been long term admirers of the England under-21 international and are now monitoring Chelsea’s approach carefully should the opportunity to make their own bid arise.

Everton have stated that they are under no financial obligation to sell the player, and though Stones has remained quiet during the speculation, it will be on the club’s shoulders to convince him to stay instead of heading out to join one of the sides that will surely be contending for the Premier League title this year.
