It had appeared that Valdes may have been about to become the club’s number one after speculation suggested that David de Gea was set to move to Real Madrid this summer (via Daily Mirror).
However, the Daily Star report that Gines Carvajal opened talks about a move back to Spain for the 33-year-old. The news comes after the Premier League side decided that Los Blancos had missed the deadline to make a deal for de Gea happen during this window (via Daily Star).
United reportedly plan to make the 24-year-old see out the final year of his contract, the Daily Star, which meant that – given Valdes’ only opportunities last season came when his rival was injured – the veteran stopper faces more time on the bench.
That possibility was practically confirmed, as the Star report that Valdes was left out of the squad to take part in the pre-season tour of America. After appearing set to become the Red Devils’ number one next term, it now seems that he has already made his last appearance for the club.
