8. Angelo Peruzzi (Inter Milan to Lazio) £13m
After just one season at Inter Milan, Lazio made an offer that was just too tempting for Nerazzurri. With his new club he made nearly 200 Serie A appearances, and won the 2004 Coppa Italia. He would also be included in Italy’s successful World Cup squad in 2006.
7. Jeremy Mathieu (Valencia to Barcelona) £14m
The French international has enjoyed a wonderful first season at the Nou Camp, following his £14m move from Valencia last summer. He has been used regularly in the heart of Barca’s defence, and has helped the side clinch a historic treble, which was completed by winning the Champions League final against Juventus.
