AC Milan have emerged as the favourites to sign Liverpool’s holding midfielder Lucas Leiva, according to the Daily
The Express report that the 28-year-old has fallen out with Brendan Rodgers after he was left out of the matchday squad to face Stoke City during the opening weekend of the season.
His agent is set to fly out to Italy tomorrow and begin discussions about a possible move, which is set to cost the Rossoneri £5m (via Express).
The Reds’ current longest serving player is set to become part of the rebuilding project at San Siro following a very disappointing campaign that saw Milan only just finish in the top half of the Serie A table.
The club currently have quite a large squad, especially in the midfield department, but his main competition for a place in Sinisa Mihajlovic’s side appears to be former Manchester City man Nigel de Jong.
However, he seems to stand a much better chance of getting in the Milan squad currently, than he does in the Liverpool side. The Merseyside outfit have added James Milner this summer, while there seems to be acceptance – based on where he played when brought on against Stoke – that Emre Can should be used in the middle of the park, rather than as part of the back four.
