Arsenal and Liverpool may be about to act after reported target Keita Balde Diao handed in a transfer request at current club Lazio, according to the Daily
The 20-year-old featured on 23 occasions in Serie A last season – but only made six starts in the top flight – and was reportedly left furious after being left out of the starting eleven for the club’s Italian Super Cup clash with Juventus, the Express report. His mood was probably not improved when he was not one of three substitutes used by Stefano Pioli.
But Lazio’s loss may be the Premier League’s gain. The Express report that a bid of just £10.6m may be enough to secure the former Barcelona man’s signature.
While the two interested sides enjoyed contrasting fortunes during the opening weekend of the season – with Arsenal going down to hard-working West Ham, while Liverpool overcame a plucky Stoke side – they had a similar issue in their respective games, in that their strikers were unable to find the back of the net.
Despite the presence of new signing Christian Benteke, it was midfielder Philippe Coutinho that saved Brendan Rodgers’ men with a wonderful strike, while the Gunners failed to create many chances despite continual pressure.
The possibility of signing an exciting forward, for a relatively low price, may see a bidding war between the two clubs as they both look to bolster their firepower.
