Arsene Wenger has named the side that he hopes will be able to beat Crystal Palace and kick Arsenal’s season into life. The big news is that Alexis Sanchez will make his first start of the campaign, but Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain drops to the bench.
The decision to drop the England international is certainly a surprise. Chamberlain has been the Gunners’ brightest spark so far this season, having scored the only goal during the Community Shield clash with Chelsea, and hitting a sumptuous volley during their opening Premier League game against West Ham, that only narrowly missed the target.
But the Gunners will surely be boosted by the return of Sanchez. The Chilean was thrown on against the Hammers to try and make something happen as defeat loomed. And while he was unable to prevent Slaven Bilic’s side leaving with all three points, he certainly looked like he was raring to go.
Meanwhile, Hector Bellerin replaces Mathieu Debuchy at right-back as the north London try to get off the mark.
