Arsenal have reportedly contacted Real Madrid about the possibility of agreeing a deal that would see Karim Benzema make a stunning move to the Emirates this summer, according to the Metro.
Despite Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott looking in impressive form during pre-season, Arsene Wenger appears keen to bolster his goalscoring threat, and seems to believe that the Frenchman is the ideal man to do that, as the Metro report that the 27-year-old is his top transfer target this summer.
The Gunners have put aside as much as £45.8m to make a deal happen, according to the Metro, and now seem well on their way to finding out once and for all whether Los Blancos are tempted to sell their main striker.
The money on offer – should the Premier League side offer the full amount reserved – would surely represent the kind of bid that is likely to make Rafa Benitez less concerned about losing the former Lyon forward with the new season just days away.
