Arsenal have reportedly turned down the chance to sign Real Madrid midfielder Asier Illarramendi, according to the Daily
The Gunners had been credited with an interest on the midfielder earlier in the summer, though they reportedly faced competition from the likes of Liverpool and Juventus.
Illarramendi hasn’t managed to get a grip in the Real Madrid first team since arriving from Real Sociedad, and now faces an even bigger battle for game time following the £25million capture of Mateo Kovacic from Inter. That not only leaving him behind Kovacic in the packing order, but Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and Casemiro in the Madrid midfield.
Real are now actively looking to offload him from their books and offered him up to The Gunners, who waved away their advances.
Once touted as the natural successor to Xabi Alonso, Real are believed to be asking for around £16.5m for his signature.
