Despite having both Loic Remy and Radamel Falcao in the squad, Jose Mourinho is desperate to provide Chelsea’s main striker Diego Costa with more support, and is hoping that a former Real Madrid goalscorer may be able to answer his prayers, the Metro
According to the Metro, Napoli forward Gonzalo Higuain is the man that Mourinho wants to help the Blues as they attempt to retain their Premier League crown.
However, the Argentinian – who worked under the Special One at the Bernabeu – will not come cheap, with the Metro reporting that the Serie A side will demand that the 27-year-old’s £63.9m release clause is met by any interested party.
Should the Stamford Bridge outfit make such an offer, Higuain will surely be up for a move to the Premier League. Napoli will be playing in the Europa League this season, which is unlikely to satisfy a player of his calibre.
However, he may be put off a switch by the amount of competition already at the club. Mourinho already has three marquee forwards, but often just starts with one. Given Costa’s impressive first campaign in England, it seems unlikely that he will be regularly dropped to accommodate for Higuain’s arrival.
