Chelsea are believed to be ready to up their interest in Germany international defender Antonio Rudiger, according to the Daily
The Blues are in the market for a new centre-back to provide back up and competition for established first choice pairing Gary Cahill and John Terry.
Manager Jose Mourinho had been looking to bring in Everton’s John Stones for a reported £30m, but that deal now looks to be dead in the water, prompting the club to turn their attentions towards Rudiger instead.
The 22-year-old – currently on the books of Bundesliga giants Stuttgart – is said to be being monitored by both Arsenal and Italian side Roma, but a report in the Daily Star is suggesting that Mourinho is weighing up a £20m bid of his own.
Rudiger made his breakthrough into the Stuttgart first team back in 2012, and has since gone on to make 60 appearances for the first team, scoring five goals. He has also been capped six times by Germany.
