‘Chinese Sergio Ramos’ tells reporters he’s set to sign for Chelsea

Chelsea could be about to sign Chinese international defender Zhang Linpeng after Reuters reported that he told press that he’s on his way to Stamford Bridge.

The 26-year-old, who has 44 caps for the Chinese national side to his name, can play either in the heart of defence or at right-back, and helped Guangzhou Evergrande to four straight Chinese Super League titles, as well as the 2013 AFC Champions League.

And according to Chinese publication Titan24, he has revealed that he is set to join Chelsea initially on loan as the report suggests that he will not go straight into the side.

Reuters claim that both clubs are in the process of working on his work permit, as players from non-European Union countries are subject to stricter work permit requirements in Britain and he will loaned out to another European side before joining The Blues.

“I’m very happy and very excited to finally have this formal invitation [to join Chelsea]. I’ve worked hard and waited these five-six years for my dream of playing overseas, and finally have recognition from the English Premier League,” He told Titan24.

“Although I’m unable to play Premier League directly, I believe [Chelsea] will have the most professional arrangements regarding my permit.

“I have no worries at all about the negotiations.”

Linpeng joined Evergrande from Shanghai East Asia back in 2010 and has since gone on to make 144 appearances, scoring 13 goals in the process.

The news could mean that Everton defender John Stones is set to stay put, after he saw a transfer request turned down earlier in the week after being heavily linked with his own move to Stamford Bridge (via BBC).
